About Julia

As a BHSII / Senior Coach and a BDCC (British Dressage Coaching Certificate) Level 2 recognised dressage coach, Julia Cory brings a wealth of experience and passion to her equestrian training services. Julia’s journey with horses began at a young age where she actively participated in all Pony Club activities, particularly dressage and show jumping. Her enthusiasm was sparked for coaching whilst working at a small riding school in Berkshire teaching children and adults from beginner level to more experienced riders. This realisation led her to pursue a career in coaching. To refine her skills, Julia underwent comprehensive training through the BHS Pathway at Bicton and Duchy College. Her expertise grew further while working at Kate Hamilton’s equestrian centre in Windsor Great Park. Here, she not only coached dressage but also had the opportunity to train young horses and ride them up to advanced levels. Seeking new challenges and the chance to work with diverse clients, Julia took a coaching position at Stonar School. For seven years, she had the privilege of teaching children of all ages, ranging from 5 to 18 years old. During this time, she also embarked on her Eventing journey, achieving remarkable success up to Novice level on a 14.2 pony! (see picture below). Julia was fortunate to collaborate with esteemed equestrians like Jonquil Hemming, Vicky Brake, and Ann Newbury during her time at Stonar. Julia stayed at Stonar for seven years not only coaching but helping to organise events.

Julia’s commitment to equestrian education extended beyond Stonar as she started teaching for Wylye and the Avon Vale Pony Clubs.

Following a brief break to focus on her family, Julia then decided to pursue her passion independently as a freelance equestrian coach.

Whether you are a beginner seeking a solid foundation or an experienced rider aiming for improvement, Julia Cory is dedicated to helping you reach your equestrian goals. With a rich background in coaching and a genuine love for horses, Julia is committed to providing exceptional training experiences tailored to your unique needs. Join us and take the reins of your equestrian journey today!

Julia offers thoughtful and personalised coaching across all three disciplines at all levels . However what sets Julia apart as a coach is that she truly cares - about you AND about the welfare of your horse. A great coach is an essential part of your equestrian support network, along with an outstanding farrier and a superb vet, so I'm incredibly grateful I found her. I would have been lost without her ongoing coaching and advice these last few years.

Julia is a very special person. If you need time, patience and understanding she is the one to bring it out of yourself, your shell, your fear and your emotional demons. It’s not just about how well you can ride or what you are riding, she will work with you to help you gain confidence - help you find the enthusiasm to forge forward to achieve far more than you thought you ever would again. She doesn’t care if you only walk about or feel a fool, or cry, she just wants to support you to be the very best you can be - to be able to ride again with a smile on your face.
